Q&A for My First Build!!! Lollipop From Source!! Nww with 5.0.2_r1 and Tethering and F2FS

Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.

Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for My First Build!!! Lollipop From Source!! Nww with 5.0.2_r1 and Tethering and F2FS. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.

Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy! :)

[Q] Best way to hide settings (getting first phone for a kid) topic

Is there some app to manage the phone? Or perhaps there's a way to do this without 3rd party apps?
Basically we got our daughter her first phone ever 2014 MX and just in case I'd like to lock it down as much as i can. I don't mind her using apps and obviously calling but I did set a limit on data and in general i don't want her any any of her friends to potentially screw with settings.

Thanks!
Oh yea, running Lollipop

First ring very low then rings normal. Any fix for this? topic

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I've noticed (as I'm sure many of you have) that when receiving a call the first ring is so low it's almost inaudible. then ring #2 on the phone rings at normal sound level. I've tried various ROMs and all of them seem to have it. Is there any fix for this?

[Kernel] FPBug: First really stable 4.x kernel for the Galaxy S2 i9100 topic

FPBug: Meet the very first stable kernel for the Galaxy S2 i9100, S2 AT&T i777, S2 Epic 4G Touch d710 and Note n7000 since Gingerbread days

Every single Android 4.x kernel for these devices has had a serious bug (FPBug) that randomly corrupts the state of processes, starting with Samsungs's stock ICS and JB and spanning every custom kernel out there newer than Gingerbread.

A little bit of history

As Android got more complex, the effects of this bug grew more visible, to the point of making the platform completely unstable for some users. Complex apps would fail for no reason, GSM, 3G and WiFi connectivity would randomly be lost, music playback would stop and require a reboot, camera would fail, internal storage and SD cards would become inaccessible, installed apps would disappear, users would experience battery drain issues ranging from inability to enter deep sleep all the way to phones becoming very hot, and the list goes on and on.

These failures all seemed unrelated and their cause was very hard to track down. Partly because events happened randomly and were not reproducible, but mostly because the bug undermines the very assumptions programmers deal with when creating any kind of code. And so years passed and the common cause of all this pain was never identified. Many ROM developers abandoned the platform out of frustration.

Then finally this past March, when analyzing the random loss of access to storage, user cgx observed a corruption event for the first time, and a connection between all these unrelated issues, sometimes hypothesized, was suddenly found. The corruption seemed to have happened in the stack, but it was later suspected then confirmed that the corruption actually happened directly in the registers of the floating point unit of the CPU.

This allowed the creation of a stopgap fix for the "music bug" that shielded the FUSE process (which manages access to storage) from corruption in the FPU. The fix was widely applied and effectively eliminated all bugs resulting from sudden loss of storage access and returned the platform to pre-Android 4.3 stability levels: ie, sort of stable enough to be used as a daily driver. Later a working detector for the elusive bug was made and it was confirmed that all kernels since Gingerbread were affected (a thing that was already suspected given that the FirefoxOS people had described similar symptoms in 2012 under stock Samsung ICS). Finally enough of a root cause was hypothesized and a fix was worked out. A short description of what the fix does can be found here.

Downloads

You will find kernels for various CyanogenMod releases, M-snapshots and nightlies here. These kernels are guaranteed to work only with the exact matching version of CM specified in the last part of their filenames. But in reality they should work with most versions of CM that are close enough. (Don't ask me about this, I don't know, I don't even have any of these phones! Just try them and see for yourself if you are feeling a little adventurous.) For other ROMs i expect this fix to be merged in a matter of days after some more testing is done. Please be patient, and KitKat users can flash my music bug fix in the meantime.

FAQ

Q. I have flashed your music bug fix in the past. Can I flash your kernel?
A. Yes! The music bug fix has no downsides. In fact, as a side effect, that fix makes your phone slightly faster and saves some battery so it should be merged in all ROMs IMHO. If you already have it installed leave it in place, but do not flash it again the next time you upgrade the OS. Please do not flash it just for the sake of optimization: since it is based on CM11 M10, it would actually be a downgrade.

Device Memory running low in the first days ZTE mini topic

Hey,

After having the device for a few days, I received a notification that the device storage was almost full. I realised that this was true and I placed some applications in the internal storage.

However, still the device storage doesn't have much capacity and many applications cannot be moved. It's 6.58 gb with runntime space 4.12 and apps 1.8gb already.

Does this happen to everyone or it has to do with my rom?

And can I do anything? Because soon it will be again full, I guess.

Thanks

First impressions and questions topic

Hi,

I have played with Themer and widgets last few hours, and it looks very nice. I have looked through the introduction videos, and they were informative, but there is always some information missing, and here is what I could not find:
  1. How to lock widgets without right click?
When we unlock the widgets for editing, we need to lock them back. Every tutorial that I looked does this using right click on screen, but what if there is no place on screen available to right click (widget occupies to whole screen)?. I guess we could add one screen temporarily, lock the widgets, and remove the "dummy" screen, but I guess there should be some quicker method?

  2. How to dock particular widget to appear on all screens?
I would like one widget to appear on all screens, something like a Dock on the stock Android. How to mark widget as docked (locked) on all screens?

  3. How to preview a custom (exported) theme?
In the video tutorials it is said to put an image with the same name to thumbs folder (I noticed that it must be png also, not jpeg). However, this only shows the screenshot in the thumbnail preview of exported themes. What about when we select a particular theme, which opens a screen with Delete Apply choices? This preview is still blank screen, which means that it does not use the image from the thumbs. The same behavior is seen in the video tutorials.

  4. How to know if there is an empty widget on screen?
For example, lets say that I have dropped a widget on the screen accidentally, and I did not place any element in it. This widget would be transparent by default. How can I see those widgets, so I can remove them?

Thanks.

First, I know this is the wrong post. 2 I have read everywhere topic

Been trying t fx my LG exceed 2 for months. I need the stock kdz for this to do it. Don't need any help other than a good download link. I need the stock kdz file. A link to it .. Anything. Even the stock recovery would work. I could do a lot with that as I have NO recovery in it right now. It looks to get signal from phone Bluetooth wiri etc. It won't. No internet at all. I just want to fix it. I have tried everything but the filws I need aren't available and I can't find them anywhere. As I said I have been looking fr weeks. Its a pretty bad ass phone. Too bad Verizon hates customers. Anyway. Any helpbwould be appreciated.
PS, if aod will move this to a better spot that's very cool of you to do. I just have looked everywhere and nothing is even close. Locked bootloader on a prepaid phone. Are they going crazy over there? If I wanted an I phone I'd go buy one. Jeez.

[Q] First time root, what now? topic

I rooted for the first time and it is good to go. When googling, I just find articles of "must-have" apps for rooted phones.

My question is, though, what apps do I need.

I see TWRP and Xfusion (or something like that) a lot. I also seen about some app that saves root when upgrading to 12B (I had to downgrade from 12B -> 10B).

So, are there any apps that are neccessary that aid in saving root, managing root access, etc. that is recommended?
