loose buttons but not something to worry about! topic

What a story!!

I bought a galaxy note 4 right on launch day first thing in the morning. Ive had just about every phone but have been waiting for while to get my hands on the new note 4. Well I bought the phone at the videotron at St . Bruno shopping center in Quebec, Canada. Once i singed all the papers for my contract i got home and finally took the phone out of the box. I loved it, it does everything one would expect from the highest spec phone on the market. But about a week later i started noticing that my buttons especially my home button were slightly loose and also a weird oil spot developing under the home button.
So I went back to videotron but this time at St. Catherine street store and the manager obviously didnt know much about phones because he looked at it, pu windex on a paper towel and started wiping my screen with it and telling me theres nothing wrong with it. After frustratingly ezplaining everything to him he basically explained that if the phone makes calls and works, than these issues arent covered for an exchange as its not affecting the functionality. My logic to him was if you vuy a ferrari and realize that the paint is f-up wouldn't the dealership do something about it.. anyways without any luck I left.
about a week and half later i found out there was a store here in montreal called service absolute which is a samsung repair center that i could bring my phone to. After getting off the phone with them, they explained how it would take nearly a month before they would have any part for this phone. So after patiently waiting i finally get a call back from them and droped off my phone the following day.
Two days later i recieve the phone and after few hours i noticed the phone's new screen was actually lifting from the housing and the buttons were all still loose. I was furiated cause i felt that Samsung made it worst!! I could actually see inside my phone from behind the screen and could see dust getting inside the phone under the camera lens and so on. I was completly desperate to fix this asap and decided at this pont to take matters in my own hands and take this thing apart.. i know! Scray sh@$ but it had to be done. I unscrewed the screws at the back and gently seperates the phone from the metal frame.
The first thing i found out is if your going scatch your phones metal case, its no big deal you can replace the whole thing for 40 bucks. Next i noticed that all the buttons ( volume and power) are adheared to that frame by a few pins stratically placed. So its normal that they have play and not really important as it wont affect anything on the motherboard. After that i noticed that the glue between the inner midframe ( the one that hold the motherboard with the screen) also wasnt glued properly and was able to seperate it from the lcd/digitizer assembly. What i now found out is the home button isn't attached to any5hing at all and is completely free floating between the midframe and the screen home button cutout. Which means that again, no need to worry about anything breaking as the home button is loose to start with and only in place by the two peaces glued together. Loose or not it will not break.
Well i wasnt able to adhear the screen back in place as I didnt have double sided tape but sent in to samsung again and they finally glued it back properly. They did their job priperly this time and no more screen seperation issues. But ill tell you i definatly got an up close look of this phone and im keeping as it super easy to repair if anythibg ever broke on it.

Thought id share my experience with everyone and put some of your worries to rest.
take care!

[MOD][FIX] Loose roaming R with MVNO on home network on Lollipop LRX210 topic

After updating from KitKat to Lollipop I got one annoyance back. Since I am on Telfort, a MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) on the KPN network here in the Netherlands, I need to switch roaming on to be able to use data and next to it I constantly see an small R next to my signal bars. The small R is there instead of the 3G, H or other symbol defining the type connection you have on the network so you don't have that information anymore.

This issue popped up since the KitKat 4.4.3 update but was easily fixed with xposed framework and the national data roaming option in gravitybox on KitKat versions. But with Lollipop there is no xposed framework (yet) so I couldn't find a solution.

Finally I looked into editing the framework-res.apk of my stock Lollipop rom and managed to add the values that are needed for my provider and created an update.zip which can be flashed in a custom recovery. I have posted that solution on the open AOSP issue for this but I thought it would be good to post it here as well. As a result of some requests I have also included fixes for two other MVNO's than Telfort only. If you also have this issue and would like to get this fixed for your provider please let me know which MVNO provider you have and what the host network is. I can then add the file for your country to the update.zip

The update.zip now contains fixes for:
  • Telfort, the Netherlands

  • Noverca, Italy

  • Yesss, Austria

Prerequisites:
  • Stock Android Lollipop LRX210 on Nexus 5 (don't use this when you are on other roms like CM for example, you need to do the edits to the specific framework of that rom )

  • Custom recovery installed, I tested this with TWRP

How to install:
  1. Boot into your custom recovery

  2. Make a nandroid backup

  3. install the update.zip

  4. Reboot

Something loose inside topic

I already posted the same question on the oneplus forum, and some guy said it's the camera lens' fault and it's normal. But a few more opinion does not hurt :)
I recently, for error, shaked my OPO and noticed that there is something inside that make a rattling noise when shaked. I saw other threads about it but no clear response of what could it be, or if it is normal. The noise is very very soft but if you shake it near the ear you can clearly hear it.
