ClockworkMod question topic

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum. I have a question about restoring a backup for ClockwordMod. I recently bricked my Touchpad after trying to install LuneOS, after making a careless mistake. Before then I was running a dual-boot JCsullins CM10.1 ROM and WebOS. Since I was starting again, I decided to pull the trigger on a DM build and installed jcsullins' 1125 CM11 build, this time minus WebOS. After a while I wiped the Touchpad, installed WebOS, and then LuneOS, this time successfully. Before wiping, I had made a backup of my CM11. After TP Toolbox didn't like coexisting LuneOS and WebOS partitions when reinstalling Android, I decided to wipe the Touchpad again, and this time install WebOS, then Android before LuneOS.
Anyways, here's the main problem. On my first attempt, I installed WebOS, then CM11, but when I tried to load a backup from when the Touchpad only had Android, the process ended up wiping WebOS as well. I don't want to have to redownload and reinstall my apps all over again, and as much as possible I'd like to use the backups and not have to sideload the apps. Anyways, here's my question. If I wanted to recover ONLY apps, would doing a custom restore of ONLY data bring back all the apps and leave WebOS intact?

Rooted and installed clockworkmod! topic

I just recently was able to root and install clockwork mod recovery on my samsung galaxy sIII for sprint (SPH-L710) Android version is 4.4.2 kernel version 3.4.0-1368792 april 19 2014
I am by no means an expert at this and it was a breeze at least for me.
I downloaded towelroot using chrome on my phone and installed ( had to allow 3rd party apps and hit ok to some warnings )
then i downloaded rom manager and installed clockwork mod. This part was a breeze for me did it all right from inside the rom manager app.

I then went and downloaded and installed clockwork mod touch but that part is not needed.

I mostly wanted to report on a sucsesful and very easy way to root and install a recovery mod.
I have not yet attempted to install any other firmware on the phone. I ran a backup from clockwork mod and it seems to have worked fine.
One question i do have though is this. Since i did a backup in clockwork mod with the stock firmware does that mean i now have a reliable firmware i could restore to if i screw things up?
