[Q] What to wipe? topic

This is probably the wrong place to ask but I wanted to know what I should be wiping in TWRP before I flash a new ROM. It's been a long time since I flashed a fresh ROM (I'm on CM11S for quite some time) and I can't remember what I wipe to give myself a clean start.

Thanks

[Q] stuck at TWRP screen after wrong wipe topic

I made a terrible mistake by wiping in the RKC menu. Now I can't access to my tablet anymore (neither adb (no device) nor fastboot (waiting for device) commands work) I'm stuck at the TWRP logo screen. It flashes twice after a hard or soft reset.
With every search I didn't get any answer how to solve this.
Solutions by Buster (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2425581) and Matiosse (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2395644) didn't work
I had KitKat 4.4.4-CROMBi-kk-R1-Oct 1 , F2S, and TWRP 2.7.0.1 rooted and unlocked of course.
Any help is very appreciated.
Thanks, Henk-Jan.

[Q] Why wipe Dalvik? topic

Maybe I have not done enough searching on this, but I cannot draw a clear picture.

I see in the installation instructions on some ROMs include wipe Dalvik cache.
The runtime on Lollipop is art, why wipe the Dalvik cache when flashing ROMs?

can anyone clarify this for me?

Help with 5.01 (no wipe) topic

OK. This is for those who are not so great or somewhat new to flashing stuff; if you're already awesome at this you will most likely not find this thread helpful. It took me a long time to find the answers I was looking for so I thought I'd share my results.

My issue: I was trying to update to Android 5.01 (Nexus 6, 5.0, encrypted, rooted)
I got the OTA notification, which after I dismissed it, could not get it back. However, I found out, again after much reading that even if I had caught it, it would not have worked since Lollipop does a system check before it updates and because I was rooted would not have worked. I also tried just capturing the OTA update from droidlife and again, once I got to the sideload phase (either through wugfresh, or just standard minimal adb).

So... searched and searched, I didn't want to lose my user data, since it's tough to get everything just the way I like it. I finally found a solution.

I downloaded Wugfresh (mainly because the application is great in terms of getting the drivers under control, I was able to get it installed and working on two comptuers).

Next, downloaded the minimal adb and fastboot stuff, it's pretty awesome, because after this process you really feel like you're getting a grasp on customizing android.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2317790

Next, download the actual install image from google (nexus 6, 5.01)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2317790

Once you get that file, you'll need a nice zip program like 7zip: You want to go into the file and get 5 files:
radio-shamu-d4.0-9625-02.55.04.img (I renamed it to radio.img)
bootloader-shamu-moto-apq8084-71.05.img (I renamed it to bootloader.img

then in the image-shamu-lrx22c.zip file, retrieve these three files:
recovery.img, system.img and boot.img

Now, take a breath, get a drink and prepare for the next part.

Boot into fastboot mode (power off phone, then once it's off, hold down power and volume DOWN)
Pull up your minimal adb and fastboot:
type:
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
fastboot flash radio radio.img

Very important next step:
fastboot reboot-bootloader

Next:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img

fastboot reboot

This first boot will take quite a bit but it WILL come up, and optimize all your apps and settings (nothing lost)

Now, because I was in the mood to flash stuff, I rebooted into fastboot mode again (after I downloaded CF-auto root and extracted the files for 5.0)
renamed the cf-autoroot blah blah blah to just root.img

then:
flashboot boot root.img, it ran and rebooted, bam rerooted, none of the my data lost. Hope this helps someone.

[Q] /data partition unable to wipe topic

Hey guys,

I had previously encrypted my phone with the inbuilt android encryption, but it just didn't work (the PIN wasn't my password)
I tried to factory reset it but it didn't work either, from both fastboot or recovery.

So I reflashed my entire system from fastboot (which worked perfectly). Now I want to install the unofficial cm12 zip, but I can't erase userdata from my phone at all.. Either through fastboot or recovery, and I'm locked to the GPe image I am using currently.

The recovery error I get when trying to delete my data partition is:

Code:

-- Wiping data...
Formatting /data...
Error mounting /data!
Skipping format...
Formatting /cache...
Formatting /sd-ext...
E:unknown volume for path [/sd-ext]
Formatting /sdcard/.android_secure...
Error mounting /sdcard/.android_secure!
Skipping format...
Data wipe complete.

I have no idea what to do help please?

[Q] Factory wipe a rooted tablet without touchscreen topic

I have a rooted Asus Transformer TF300T with TWRP. The screen is busted so I can't factory reset within Android. If I go into the bootloader and select Wipe Data, it just takes me to the TWRP screen, which I can't use because of the whole screen issue. I have fastboot installed, but when I enter the bootloader, it does not give me the USB option, just the normal RCK/Android/Wipe Data. I have the Android SDK installed, as well as Platform Tools and the USB driver. When I do either "adb devices" or "fastboot devices" in the command prompt, nothing is detected. How do I proceed? Thanks.

Also, I don't know if this is relevant or not, but in Device Manager, it shows Fastboot as an "other device" with no driver.
