Any way to remove "Enter backup password"? topic

I'm using Finger Scanner as a lock screen security method. I hate the way it puts "AT&T" and "Enter backup password" right in the middle of the screen. Is there any way to either remove it or move it towards the bottom? I'm sure there's a way to do this once we can root but any way to do so without rooting?

[Q] Restore Android after wiping no backup on sd avail. topic

Happy holidays,
I am having trouble to get my htc one m7 back to normal.

I did erase my android and internal sd card( not backup on sd card avail).
What does it mean - after rebooting my phone is stuck in HTC logo screen not booting.
It was unlocked/rooted in the first place - my plan to do a factory reset

Another issue is that my PC (win 7) does not recognize my HTC ( as storage unit ), I tried driver updates, diff cables and another PC same issue ( Android 1.0) so I am unable to copy/access the htc's sd card

What i can access/see/work with:
bootloader menu
TWRP

Once i reboot from TWRP menu, it says "no OS installed"
I could feed more details if needed.

I am desperately looking for advice. If anyone could share some thoughts, I'd be very thankful

( not a native english speaker excuse my language,)

[Q] Browsing a TWRP backup? topic

So, somehow I got my phone into a bootloop, and I made a backup of my data partition with TWRP. I reset it, and tried to restore the data partition, and the corrupted file is in there (was trying to edit settings.db for hotspot on Sprint). Anyways, when I restore the data partition, it bootloops again. So I want to get into the backup, and replace the bad settings.db file so I can restore the partition and have all my data back. How can I browse the backup using my windows 8.1 pc?

[Q] Does NANDROID backup your kernel, and if not... topic

Hi,

I've been Googling this question for the past 30 minutes and I keep seeing conflicting answers. I own an I9300 but this is a general question - does a NANDROID backup your kernel as well and can CWM restore the kernel from the NANDROID backup?

If not, is there any method to backup your kernel separately? (I do not want to count on online files for my stock backups regardless of reliability, so please keep your answers to the point, I know you can download stock kernels)

Thanks in advance,

LG G Pro 2 EFS Manual Backup topic

Few days ago I was searching method to backup EFS ( EFS contains IMEI, radio and other settings unique to your specific hardware). I found this method in a XDA thread and sharing here for convenience of other G Pro 2 users.
This method is actually for G2 and G3 but works well on G Pro 2.
To backup EFS use the following ADB commands to backup your 2 EFS partitions into sdcard.(Root is mandatory)

Code:

adb shell
su
dd if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/modemst1 of=/sdcard/modemst1.img
dd if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/modemst2 of=/sdcard/modemst2.img

Alternatively this app can this also be used.

Backup modems and /persist and what else?? topic

So I've been flashing all sorts of ROMs on my opo and I thought worst case scenario is that I have to clean flash my ROM to start over, or restore a nandroid via twrp. Apparently that's NOT all of the things I have to backup??

I did do a nandroid backup with the multirom modified TWRP, I have TiBU backups for my user apps and saved pics and stuff on my laptop. But I was reading through some threads and saw stuff about this not being enough??

Some people lost their IMEI and other stuff that I don't really understand. How does your phone lose the IMEI ?? I thought it was something hard coded into the phone lol

I have some questions for the pros around here:

1) I used TiBU to backup system apps. My understanding is if I need to clean flash the same ROM, I can just restore the system apps backup with TiBU, which will restore my accounts, settings, etc right?

2) I read about having to backup your modem too? How do I do that?

3) There's apparently a partition called /persist that I need to backup also? How do I do that?

4) How do I make sure my phone doesn't lose its IMEI?

Anything else I should backup in case things really crash and burn??

I've been flashing things left, right and center since multirom makes it so easy, but I didn't know that I wasn't fully covered lol so how do I cover my butt fully? :D

Cheers and Happy Holiday's!

[Q] Boot loop problem after restore to stock 2.3.5 backup from custom ROM 4.3.1 topic

Hi,

First time posting Reasonably Nooby...-ish to hacking around with android but pretty techy in general and have done a lot of reading to try and fix this myself before posting.

Setup: HTC Desire S, ClockworkMod ver 5.8.1.5, HBOOT 2.00.0002 S-ON Unlocked bootloader

I have been running the stock firmware Gingerbread 2.3.5 from new (rooted by me) running CWM Recovery ver 5.8.1.5. I took out my SD card and put a blank one in (possibly stupidly, didn't re-format first), I took a nandroid backup of the phone. Rebooted then changed a few phone settings/apps and restored the backup to test it was okay, and it worked fine.

I then flashed a custom rom (Carbon_4.3.1_1114_saga.zip) and (gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip) from the same sd card, cleared all cache, dalvik, data etc which boots and works fine except that I have major issues with the sound in that it doesnt ring, no notification sounds and terrible in call audio, so have restored my backup through CWM.

As soon as I restored my backup the phone goes into a boot loop. I tried clearing all data, cache, dalvik cache but it made no difference. I have tried a number of things including;

I then tried flashing boot.img to the phone from my nandroid backup in fastboot but again that made no difference.

I read through and followed the boot loop post on here but that made no differnce either.

I tried copying all data off sd card, formatting (through windows) and copying data back, no difference (more of a desperation attempt).

I can flash the custom ROM back to the phone and it boots again into that rom fine

One thing to note which may or may not have anything to do with this at all, is that when I originally wiped the dalvik cache before installing the custom ROM: from my memory, it did so with no errors. Now as soon as I select wipe Dalvik cache in CWM before even confirming to wipe, I get an error: "E:unknown volume for path [/sd-ext]", however when I do a "wipe data/factory reset" in CWM it shows it wipes /sd-ext. (this part is something I have not much knowledge on).

I cant help thinking theres something I've missed or can do that will get this to suddenly boot. Any help would be really appreciated as I've put a lot of hours/late nights into this so far and would now really like a fully working phone back.

As a side note; I believe from reading, putting a stock RUU update back on will solve the problem but after devoting a lot of hours trying to find one for my phone, I've not had much luck as nothing on HTCdev any more and cant find one for UK on Orange (now EE). And a lot of old links are now dead. As a side question does it have to be the firmware that my carrier sent out exactly for my country, I've read you can extract the rom.zip file from the RUU.exe so could I flash one that is world wide or a uk from another network provider or my network provider from another country, and then restore my backup to my own one, would that actually work/make any difference or just fail?

Thanks for any help

[Q] How to make a total backup to a PC topic

I want to make a proper backup of my Nexus 9. But the internal memory is limited, therefore I don't have the space to do a total backup with TWRP.

So how can I make a backup directly to my PC or maybe an OTG USB device?

[Q] using adb backup n 2012 to n 2013, want to ensure I backup chrome bookmarks topic

I got a n 2013, moving from a n 2012. I never rooted the 12 but rooted the 13. Anyway, I'm using adb backup because it sounds like it's my only real option when not rooted.

I'm using adb backup -apk -shared -all -nosystem -f backup.bin

I read -system is for system apps but I haven't found a guide that is clear on what that actually means. Is it system apps only or system apps and data. Since I'm migrating to a new device I thought shouldn't use -system, but now that it's running, I'm thinking this backup won't contain chrome's bookmarks, or am I wrong?

[Q] Trying to get a proper android backup topic

Migrated to android about a year ago and still haven't been able to work out proper android backup.
I want to be able to mess with the system without fear of losing my data/configurations.

For example when installing Lollipop I encountered a lot of problems and every time I ****ed something up and had to reflash it I need to reinstall and reconfigure ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING (Including redownloading about 13GB of music for google play music).

This has been a major letdown as I love tweaking and messing with the system getting it 100% the way I like it.
I've been able to get a basic functioning Lollipop installation but I want more.

Here's what I want to be able to backup to my PC (a 13GB backup on the device isn't very practical, especially when messing with the system):
My apps and all their settings (Including google play's downloaded music).
System settings.
This way and I can mess with the system and once I get it the way I want- restore the backup.

I know this might seem like a lazy google question but I am really at a lose.
I've scoured the internet looking for a solution, Tried numerous programs with no success.
Please if someone can guide me in the right direction I'll be forever grateful.
