[Q] Questions about hboot version, Kernel, and Firmware topic

Hello,

I have just been given a rooted HTC M7 (AT&T). It hasn't been used for almost a year, but it seems to work. It only has a recovery on it, not a ROM. I have no idea how to get it from where it is up to the latest and greatest. Any help or recommendations would be appreciated. I tried to read up on everything, but i couldn't parse out the info I needed from existing threads. I hope my terminology is correct!

Here's what I've got:
Device: AT&T HTC One M7

BOOTLOADER Info:
*** Tampered ***
*** Unlocked ***
M7_UL PVT SHIP S-OFF RH
CID-CWS_001
HBOOT-1.4.4.0000
RADIO-4a.14.3250.13
OpenDSP-v26.120.274.0202
eMMC-boot
May 3 2013, 19:16:59: -1

RECOVERY Info:
TWRP 2.8.1.0

ROM INFO:
I have not loaded a rom onto the device at this point. I haven't felt comfortable since I don't know if the phone in its current state will run the latest roms.

Here's what I need to know.
1. Do I need to update my bootloader? It seems like 1.44 is much older than what other people are currently using. I've seen most people on 1.57 or 1.56. If I do need to update it, what version should I update to?
2. My recovery seems to be almost up to date. I am pretty sure i know how to get the .zip for the latest version, but I don't know if I have to flash it or use another way to install it.
3. I cannot get fastboot working on my windows 8.1 machine. It does work on an old windows 7 laptop I have. It seems like others have this issue on hboot 1.44. Is there any fix for it?
4. Firmware, Kernals, and Radios. How do you know what firmware, kernel, and radio to use for a given device? does it depend on the rom you choose? There seems to be so many and it isn't clear to me.
5. Does it matter if i choose a GPE rom, a Cyanogen Rom, or a Sense Rom? Do kernels, firmwares, and radios depend on the type of rom I choose?

Thanks for all your help! I look forward to using my new to me device.

Kernel for GT-I9525 whit 5.0.2? topic

Hi, I recently installed the spegelius rom (precisely the cm-12-20141223_035155-UNOFFICIAL-jactivelte-nightly). I'm really surprised, in fact, I noticed an amazing fluidity and a very attractive graphics, but I also noticed an elevated battery drain than the official Touchwiz 4.4.2 rom :crying:, although the device does not consume practically battery on standby. I then set, with No-frills CPU, the max frequence at 810 MHz (practically nothing) and with the powersave governor, but the energy consume is the same as when I set it at 1,89 GHz and the performance governor. I tried to install the Antutu battey Saver Pro (at level 4), but nothing is changed (I've got the root, so the powersave should work). What can I do? Can I resolve this problem installing a new kernel? (I've got the stock kernel :D). Are the 4.4.x kernels compatible with Android 5.0.2? Please help me, because I really would not go back to Android 4.x. (I talked about the spegelius rom but the question is valid for all the other lollipop roms, if there is someone else for this device). Thank you for your attention. Happy Holidays :victory:

No deep sleep: kernel wakelock "bluesleep" and "msm_serial_hs_dma" topic

Hi

Just received few days ago the G watch and I am noticing no deep sleep on my nexus 5 with kitkat 4.4.4 stock with root.
the G watch is on 5.0.1 and Android Wear I 1.0.5.1630507

The battery drain of the watch is normal, around 30hrs or more.

The kernel wakelock bluesleep and msm_serial_hs_dma last the same time.
I am running on Dalvik.

Do you have any suggestion?

Thanks
Woody

[Q] Does NANDROID backup your kernel, and if not... topic

Hi,

I've been Googling this question for the past 30 minutes and I keep seeing conflicting answers. I own an I9300 but this is a general question - does a NANDROID backup your kernel as well and can CWM restore the kernel from the NANDROID backup?

If not, is there any method to backup your kernel separately? (I do not want to count on online files for my stock backups regardless of reliability, so please keep your answers to the point, I know you can download stock kernels)

Thanks in advance,

Difficulties in trying to root and/or changing the kernel for a ZTE Grand X (z7000) topic

My main goal is to root this device but have been unsuccessful in my attempts. I researched further to discover the kernel for this phone is what prohibits the action. And to the best of my knowledge and research, its difficult to crack and i havent found a certain method in doing so. Any help would be much appreciated. Thx

[Q] Flashed wrong kernel!!! topic

i Was trying to get rid of the hissing noise on my
Lg g2 D802
i had TWRP installed
I read in a trhead that flashing the dorimanx kernel should fix that problem.
So i tried flash it, but instead of flashing the D802 i flashed the D800, i know i'm an idiot :/
I had a backup stock kernel but i think that's a wrong one too, again i'm an idiot

Now my phone boots into a black screen within the left top corner:
[2800] Fastboot mode started
[2850] udc_start()

i cannot boot into twrp anymore, it's basically bricked.
Can anyone help me recover my phone? i loved that thing, you will be my hero.
i promise when this is resolved i will never mess around with roms and kernels ever agian, i'm freaking out :(

Force 1080p resolution in kernel? topic

Hi,

I have an Optimus G with a broken digitizer. I have a Bluetooth keyboard/mouse paired with it. I've got it hooked up to a 1080p screen via MHL HDMI. Everything works great... except one problem: the output resolution is 1280x720.

Now, this should be set at kernel / boot time. I'm wondering: is there a way for me to set (or perhaps recompile the kernel) to force 1920x1080? I don't mind if the phone's screen no longer works, as long as the output to the TV is full HD.

[Q] Best Kernel topic

What kernel is best for KitKat? Is it okay to use the kernel that comes with custom ROMs or are there better alternatives?

[Q] Device gets crazy after flash Doomlord kernel topic

Hi! Some months ago I flashed a kernel from here in XDA. The kernel was from Doomlord, to install CWM Recovery. But the device came into infinite boot. Then to solve it I flashed a stock rom (12.0.A.2.254) to see if the problem was solved..
Solved problem, the device came to normal (at least the infinite loop was solved).

But after flashing the Doomlord kernel, even flashing a stock rom, when I receive a message and visualize it, the LED stays turned on, and off only when rebooting. When I reboot the device, date/time are lost. The date in the top bar is updated only if I turn off the screen and then turn on again.

I tried reblock bootloader and repair from PC Companion. I tried flash the stock 4.3. I tried flash only the stock kernel. But nothing solves the problem.

Someone can help me?

Sorry for my english, I'm brazilian :)

[Kernel][3.0.101] MK kernel topic

This kernel is based on TeamCanjica/3.0.101 branch and much credit goes to them for doing this :)

Changes:
Ramdisk (https://github.com/mkaluza/ste-ramdisk-vanir/commits/master):
- don't turn zram swap by default (can be turned on via init.d) - it just eats cpu and rarely gives
- removed cm performance profiles - they interfere with init.d/setcpu
- run adb as root by default - it annoyed me to constantly type su, esp. that this su version is a bit lame and su -c "command" doesnt work

Kernel (https://github.com/mkaluza/Samsung_STE_Kernel/commits/3.0.101)
- more liveopp freqs 100-1000 with 100 MHz step
- improved liveopp and mali_boost algorithms (compared to original Vanir Kernel, which is by Team-Exhibit)
- Dynamic cpufreq governor (my design) - brings good performance and battery life together. It's a part of Project Zen (GitHub)
- LiveOPP automatic voltage calculation based on AVS data - It should reduce probability of random reboots, but beware - if you have some custom uv/oc, disable it first, as now you'll be using different vbbs by default (original one). Test your oc/uv again for stability and correct if necessary
- killed u8500 hotplug - it caused problems with audio and didn't bring any more battery time
- disabled highmem - it's not needed with only 768 MB RAM
- added Joel RCU

As a bonus - a modified torch with high power option - I was always pissed with having to use novathor settings for this...

btw novathor settings interfere with mali UV, so I removed them completely from my phone (can't be disabled - unfortunately for them :P)

However not everything from TC kernel is there - I didn't like the new liveopp algorithm. Also there's no ddr oc as one can get hurt with this when used badly...
