NO.1 Mi4 Review - A budget Xiaomi Mi4 Clone topic

You can read the full review with all pictures in high quality and the camera pictures on my blog ;):
http://klonom.com/no-1-mi4-review/

And do not forget to take part in our UMi X1 Pro Giveaway if did not yet :):
http://klonom.com/umi-x1-pro-giveaway/

Like the name already implies, the NO.1 Mi4 is a clone of the popular Xiaomi Mi4, but it costs less than the half of the original price. It has an MTK 6582 SoC, 5″ HD display, 1 GB ROM and 16 GB ROM. The NO.1 Mi4 is available for around 115€ plus tax and sending costs here at the eFox shop. At the end of the post you can find like usual the video review.

Like usual, lets start with the specifications of the device.

Specifications:
-MTK 6582 SoC with quadcore processor (each up to 1.3 GHz)
-Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean (KitKat is fake!)
-1 GB RAM, 16 GB ROM
-8 MP back camera (13 MP interpolated, camera chip OV8225), F/2.4
-5 MP front camera, F/2.4
-5" HD Display (1280x720)
-GPS
-Sensors: Light, Proximity, Acceleration, Magnetic Field
-1800 mAh battery (measured)
-WiFi, Bluetooth
-2G & 3G WCDMA (for the bands look at section "Reception"
-USB OTG
-IR-Blaster
-Single SIM (micro SIM)

Items delivered:
The NO.1 Mi4 comes with two boxes: One white glossy and one matt brown. The content of the white box is a collection of several accessoires: A tempered glass foil, a normal screen protection foil, a flip cover (to be sticked on the back) and a flexible, half transparent silicon case. Here an overview:

The phone is in the second box, together with a printed manual (on English), a USB wall plug (5.3V, 1A) and a tool for opening the SIM tray. Here's also a small overview from this box:

Unboxing Video:

First impressions:
One thing I noticed immediately while unpacking the phone: This thing was damn cold :D ! The combination of metal frame and cold delivery truck cooled down the temperature of the fingers in the first moments. After giving it some time to warm up, just the metal frame feels pleasently cool when touched. In general the NO.1 Mi4 gives a very valuable impression for its price: The one piece metal frame is processed smooth and very nicely, also the side buttons are made from metal. The capacitve menu buttons Menu, Home and Back (all lighted) are placed on the bottom of the front side. On the top of the fron side the light and proximity sensor are placed. Below the Home button a notification LED is placed, which is not noticable when not lighted.

The volume rocker and the power button is placed on the right side. Both are made out of metal and have a nice pressure point.

The SIM tray is placed on the left side which can be opened with the delivered SIM-tool. At first I had some troubles inserting the SIM card into the phone, since the tray sticked out probably a half millimeter after I placed the SIM card in. After some careful grinding of the back from the SIM-card and slightly pushing the tray towards the back of the phone while inserting, the tray finally was flush to the device.

The micro USB is placed on the bottom beside the loudspeaker. The openings for the speaker are nicely processed.

On the top side the 3.5 mm headphone port and the IR-Blaster are placed. The IR-Blaster is not a mock up, it is fully functioning (see the review video).

UI/Android:
The NO.1 Mi4 comes with a preinstalled MIUI launcher, although no real MIUI. I personally like the launcher, even if it is not a full MIUI, since it mostly includes all Android features. Also no lags or crashes were noticed.

The Android version is a bit surprising: According to the specifications it should have Android 4.4.2 KitKat, but clicking several times on the model name reveals another version: Android 4.4.2 Jelly Bean :D ! Well, that's a bit refreshing :D . So obviously it is a fake version. The supposedly Android 4.4.2 KitKat is an Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean in reality.

Performance:
To get a rough idea about the performance the Antutu benchmark version 5 was executed. The benchmark returned a score of roughly 19500 points. Obviously this score can not be compared with the original Mi4, but still a good score for the combination of MTK6582 and 1 GB RAM. The NO.1 Mi4 should be fast enough for the majority of apps.

Memory:
The NO.1 Mi4 has a 16 GB memory. This memory is divided into internal and phone memory. The internal memory has a size of 1.06 GB, while the internal memory is 13.6 GB big. The internal memory is chosen kind of small and will be filled up quickly with apps. Right now Link2SD is enough for me, otherwise the memory can be partitioned new.

The phone does not have a microSD card slot.

The NO.1 Mi4's memory can be extended using external memory since it supports USB OTG (tested with an pendrive).

Camera:
You can see the camera pictures on my blog ;):
http://klonom.com/no-1-mi4-review/

Display:
The NO.1 Mi4 has a 5" IPS HD display (1280x720 resolution) which is an OGS. The display has vivid colors and a good constant viewing angle (see video review below).

Reception:
The reception is good and does not show any extraordinary problems. It supports the following bands (SIM1 & SIM2):

Sensors:
The Mi4 clone has four sensors in total: Light, proximity, magnetic field and acceleration. All are working and tested fully functional. Especially the light sensor worked exceptionally fast, without noticeable lag. Also the proximity sensor works reliable, the screen always turned off while calling.

GPS:
The first GPS fix out of the box was done after about half minute. After another half minute the accuracy went up to about 5 m. While using it for navigation, the GPS connection was lost several times. I will try to improve the GPS with some tweaks like adjusting the EPO etc. and report if it improved and working for navigation.

Misc:
The NO.1 Mi4 has a notification LED which supports the colors red, cyan, green, yellow and white. It has Google Apps preinstalled. The preinstalled MIUI launcher has root-access by default. The build-in battery has a capacity of 1800 mAh (the capacity was measured). The NO.1 has a working IR-Blaster (see the review video), also the remote control app is in English. The silicon case has a dust stop for the headphone and microUSB port.

Review Video:

Conclusion:
I am very convinced by the NO.1 Mi4. Not really much by the performance: For this price you can easily get a phone with better hardware specifications. But the Mi4 clone offers a very high valuable outer appearance - the complete outer feels like a flagship. And in 99% of my everyday use I do not need an octa core with 2 GB RAM. Also it is delivered with a generous collection of accessoires. All in all I can definitely recommend the NO.1 Mi4 for people searching for a budget price phone, but with the appearance of a high price phone.

RAVPower® 50W/10A 6-Port iSmart USB Desktop Charger Review topic

First Impressions:
the packaging looks very professional. The box comes with a sleeve over the box. Once you take off the sleeve, you open the box and the product is inside.

In the box:
Along with the product and cable, you get a thank you card(which is very thoughtful of them), warranty card, and a booklet that tells you about the USB wall charger.

Review:
This product is really cool. It's great for a person who has more than one device to charge at once, but only one outlet to use. The quality of this product is impeccable. This product will last forever. For the price, it's a product that everyone should own. It came in very handy when my family stayed in a hotel because we weren't struggling to find outlets to charge our devices. The stays relatively cool. I had five devices charging at once and the device emits a little heat, but it doesn't feel like it's going to catch fire. Most of the reviews say that the light is super bright. I don't know if RavPower redesigned the light or not, but the light isn't bright at all to me. It's barely noticeable in the dark. Also, the product does make a little chime noise when you plug in a USB charger, which is pretty nice. The product does charge faster than my Motorola and Apple chargers, but I wish it charged a little faster because it's not a really huge difference that's worth mentioning, but other than that, I would recommend this product to anyone who is interested in buying it.

A review topic

I have had my Edge for a few days, and I may change my mind on a few aspects, but this is what I feel at the moment.

What has stood out so far is:

The cost. I am happy to pay a fair amount for my technology, but this phone is very expensive. This alone will ensure that this will remain a niche device. Maybe Samsung see it as a prototype for the allegedly forthcoming Galaxy S6 and are more interested in the response to it than sales.

The battery. It leaks power at a rate I haven't come across before. Which makes it very fortunate that it charges so very quickly - and that it has the ultimate power saving mode. I would really rather not have to use my phone in black and white though.

The curve. This is, of course, what makes it unique. It feels and looks wonderful and is very well made. Handing it around to some friends today, they were all very impressed. It makes accessing my apps very easy, but I'm note sure that it is a life changer when compared to accessing them from the regular screen(s). I'm not going to call it an edge, because that would demean it as it is a beautifully manufactured curve. It really ought to be called the Note Curve.

I really can't see what I should be doing with S pen. I have googled it and no one else seems to know either, so I suppose it will have to make do as an adequate tea stirrer.

The screen is simply gorgeous. The size of the phone fits well in my large hand. I am ostensibly left handed (there are several things I do right handed), and hold my Edge in my right hand. Accessing the edge strips seems natural and easy. Contrary to some reviews, having the wake up button at the top doesn't seem problematical to me.

Overall it works very well, and is very appealing to use. It is exciting in the way that, say, the S5 never was. But at that price, it really should be.

Gear VR Review and Unboxing topic

I received my Gear VR last night and want to post my unboxing and initial impressions. I've been a VR advocate for awhile now and was excited to finally get my hands on a virtual reality device.

A little about my history going into this.

I'm an avid gamer and was extremely excited about VR since the DK1, however I've never used any of the previous devices. Several times I have been tempted but decided to "wait for the next one with more upgrades" until I couldn't wait anymore and finally took the plunge.

BUILD QUALITY:

This thing feels solid enough, however it somehow manages to feel cheap as well...almost like a toy. It could be my bias against shiny plastic though, I wish they went with matte rubberized finish. Another fear that I have is the USB connector seems a bit flimsy. I've had USB chargers bend in the past, so it makes me wonder if it will hold up with all the docking and removing.

Packaging was nice, I love the hard case and extra foam insert they give you. The one that came on the Gear VR didn't have a nose bridge pad which made a gap between my nose and device (my nose must not have a big enough bridge). The alternative foam had the padding in the nose area which helped immensely.

USE:

SCREEN DOOR EFFECT. Everyone seems to play this down, maybe because they've been jaded by using the earlier devices which had super screen doors...not sure. This is my first VR device and I have to say, the screen door is very apparent. I can't imagine they would release it like this to consumers. Resolution needs to increase before they can market this.

I also had a hard time dialing this in to the point where it's clear and without haze. There always seems to be a a bit of haze around text and no matter what I do, turn the dial or lift and lower the goggle, the haze is still there...better...but still there. To give you all a point of reference, my PD for my eyes is 56 (pretty darn close together).

The experience is fairly good so over time you learn to forgive the screen door and haze, but I can't imagine this being consumer ready.

The best apps seem to be the ones which are computer generated. The movie theater is what I always go to when I want to show the capabilities, it's amazing. The Pacific Rim demo is pretty good too.

However, I'm not too impressed with the 360 videos. It doesn't seem like you are "really there" like everyone says. I still feel that it lacks a feeling of depth. It feels more like I am staring out of a bubble or clear globe of some sort. I still thing it has a ways to go.

Overall, I'm in-line with most the sentiments about this being a showcase product to show the POTENTIAL of VR to people. It's not super clear, it's almost immersive enough, but it's not quite ready for prime time yet. I don't think the current games are fun enough yet either. Overall, I can't do anything with this device at the moment other than watch movies and show people demos.

Review of Seidio CAPSA case for Note 4 w/lots of pics!!! topic

This is a Review of Seidio CAPSA case for Samsung Galaxy Note 4. http://www.seidioonline.com/samsung-...1ssgt4k-bk.htm

Seidio is well known for their SURFACE, ACTIVE/DILEX, CONVERT, and OBEX cases (all spelled with capital letters). These cases typically get scaled up/down for different smartphones and some tablets, but on some occasions Seidio likes to throw a curve ball with some unexpected releases like LEDGER, or the new addition to the family – CAPSA, introduced with S5 and now available for Note 4. Especially for those who are not big fans of applying their own screen protectors (especially in case of Note 4 where screen is not flat), now you can have a slick new case that exceeds military standards drop protection and includes 5H rated screen protector. Here is what I found.

Arrived in their typical bulk signature red packaging you get CAPSA TouchView Case in one box and CAPSA holster in another. The case itself has a very unique design of a dual layer protection with a TouchView flip cover made with a 5H thickness rated screen protector with oleophobic coating. That flip cover is the most unique feature of this particular case. While it's not ground breaking to have a cover with a built-in screen protector, what unique is the actual cover mechanism that effortlessly flips close with a latch keeping Note 4 secure inside. No need to sweat over screen protector alignment and worry about bubbles or non-adhesive edges with tempered glass. As a matter of fact, it even works with a tempered screen protector already installed. In my test I had a thin tempered glass protector which I didn't want to remove, and when closing the cover there was no gap and touch sensitivity was not affected. Another thing to keep in mind, this is not a waterproof case, and you will have cut out for Home button and other speaker and front camera openings at the top of the screen.

Now, regarding the case itself. The back shell has two layers, inner TPU silicone layer with a new honeycomb pattern, referred to as Hexguard, for enhanced drop protection, and a strong PC shell with a soft touch outer finish and Seidio exclusive metal kickstand with magnetic latch. Enclosed inside of CAPSA, the phone exceeds MIL-STD-810G standard rating and can easily survive an average shoulder height drop of 4ft. The outer coating has a nice non-slip grip, and TouchView cover has a raised bumper to protect the screen when dropped face down or placed on a surface face down. The volume up/down and power buttons are covered underneath of rubber buttons and have a nice tactile response. Headphone, usb port, speaker, camera/flash, and s-pen have a generous opening, as well as all other ports that are open and clear, including universal mic opening for all Note 4 versions. Metal kickstand is very robust and designed to keep Note 4 sturdy in landscape view. Holster is their common signature design used with CONVERT and OBEX, and in my opinion among the best available holsters with a spring loaded mechanism (which also has a latch) and removable clip that works with Seidio QUEST mounting system of interchangeable attachments.

Overall, I was very pleased with a design of CAPSA case for Note 4. This case has a perfect 360 degree protection inside of a dual layer slim case with a TouchView cover that offers a built-in quality screen protector. Typically, this level of protection comes at an expense of a bulky heavy duty design that not always pocket or purse friendly, but not with CAPSA where it's lightweight, slim, and will not pull your pocket lining when taking out. Definitely a great case to consider!

Here are the pictures.

Review of Seidio DILEX Pro case for Note 4 w/lots of pics!!! topic

This is a Review of Seidio DILEX Pro case for Galaxy Note 4. http://www.seidioonline.com/samsung-...2ssgt4k-bk.htm

As I usually say, you have to be living under a rock not to be familiar with Seidio line of popular cases such as SURFACE, DILEX (former ACTIVE), CONVERT, OBEX, etc. I had a pleasure to review and to post about these in our forums for a lot of different Galaxy phones and Nexus tablets. For me SURFACE and ACTIVE was always like two siblings, until ACTIVE name was replaced with DILEX and now enhanced with DILEX Pro. I think it was a good decision to rename it because some people probably associate Active with a more rugged outdoor design, something expected from CONVERT or OBEX cases. Either way, no matter what you call it - it's still the same design principle with an inner shock absorbing shell and outer soft rubbery flexible pc shell. This design stayed very similar throughout the last few years and dozens of models, until now. The “Pro” suffix took it to a whole new level of slim protection adding only 2.2mm of thickness! Here is what I found.

This two-layer interlocking design always surprised me with how Seidio was able to keep it thin and durable. But the latest reincarnation of ACTIVE/DILEX moved it even closer to SURFACE level with a lot of other design improvements without compromising the protection of your phone. This case used to have inner silicon shell with a rather stretchy fit. The new version has a slim form fitting TPU layer with a honeycomb pattern of Hexguard technology. You still get extra shock absorption cushioning and will be able to accommodate different screen protectors including various tempered glass brands where you don't have to worry about case pushing on the edges. During the test I had no issues with my tempered glass protector. Since this is not a soft silicone anymore, I’m no longer will be complaining about the material being a lint magnet. The exoskeleton shell goes over inner TPU shell to secure its position, and adds an additional layer of protection around the sides and the top/bottom of the Note 4. The outer shell material is flexible which is very important during a drop to survive any cracks. Soft rubbery finish is very nice to the touch and adds non-slippery grip as well as being very easy in-and-out of the pocket. There are two distinct sculptured grip points on each side of the inner shell which accessible from the cutouts of outer shell. These are strategically placed at the lower part of the phone for an enhanced grip.

Once interlocked and on your phone, every port opening has a precise cutout and perfect alignment. As a matter of fact, you have a very generous micro-usb opening to accommodate different connectors, a decent headphone opening for even fatter plugs, and S-pen opening is wide enough for a comfortable access. Also, DILEX Pro has universal bottom left mic opening to accommodate all Note 4 versions, including Verizon. Volume/Power buttons are covered and easy to push, and have a nice tactile response. Another star of this design is metal kickstand with a magnetic closure. It always adds a classy touch to Seidio cases, has a sturdy construction, and magnet doesn't interfere or blocks phone’s functionality. This kickstand is intended for a landscape viewing mode only, not the portrait. Last but not least accessory is a holster, something I always praise in my Seidio reviews. Besides felt lining to protect the display of the phone and swivel belt clip with a precise click mechanism, it has a very secure spring loaded clip for easy removal of the phone.

Overall, Seidio finally broke the mold of their classic ACTIVE/DILEX design with a new Pro version of it. They didn’t necessary re-invented the wheel, but surely improved it by making slimmer and slicker version while still keeping a high level of protection. People always used to look at SURFACE as the slimmest case in Seidio collection. Now DILEX Pro is going to challenge that, though you have to keep in mind that advantage of SURFACE is compatibility with OBEX layer for more advanced protection. But unfortunately SURFACE is not very friendly with tempered glass screen protectors, so if you want to keep it slim with a dual-layer protected – DILEX Pro will be a great choice. As always, shop around on Amazon where you can find the best deal on these cases.

Here are the pictures.
