[Q] Nexus 5 Camera exposure issue in Google Translate. Anyone else seeing this? topic

05:20

I'm having an issue with Google Translate and I was wondering if other have experienced the same issue. I have a N5 running 5.0.1 and I'm trying to take a picture to translate the text. I've done this in the past without issue but tonight when I tried to do it, the exposure on the camera was way too low. My somewhat dimly lit room was pretty much pitch black. It didn't seem to matter what I pointed the camera at and the exposure never changed. It was as if it was exposing for a very bright object, like my TV or laptop screen, rather than what I was actually pointing the camera at.

I don't remember it behaving like this in the past. I thought it might have been the camera itself, but it worked fine in the camera app. I also confirmed that the room should have been exposed fine and wasn't in fact just too dark because the exposure compensation value was set to 0 in the camera app. I also tried clearing the Translate app data, but that wasn't any help.

Could someone else give it a shot and let me know what yours is doing? Do you also find the exposure way to low when attempting to take a picture to translate?

Thanks in advance.
