I'm running stock 4.3 TMO ROM. SGH-T889

I attempted to flash a KitKat 4.4.4 ROM (Cyanogen 11) but every time I do, I get "Sim Card Not Detected" and all the APN's are blank. When I try to enter a new APN, it just disappears.
All the IMEI and Device Info go to "Unknown".
I was able to restore the original ROM, and everything was fine. Outside of the SIM/Signal issue, the KitKat ran fine, too.
Do I need to flash a new radio/modem when I go from 4.3 to 4.4?
