[Q] Returning Nexus 7 (2012) to factory stock topic

19:20

Hi,

My uncle gave my his old (2012) Nexus 7 to mess around with. It's currently running pretty slow. He said he sideloaded 5.0 onto it which slowed it down a lot. I'm not sure if this was an official version of 5.0, however, since it looks a good bit different from my Nexus 5 running the OTA (e.g. the app drawer button looks like KitKat still, as do the app folders and app drawer itself). He may be wrong, but he was under the impression that given the way he's loaded 5.0, I won't get OTA updates on the device.

It's my understanding the 5.0.2 improves performance for the 2012 Nexus 7. I'd like to get the device back in a state in which it will receive OTA updates.

I should say that though I've been an Android user for years, I know next to nothing about flashing custom roms. Next to nothing meaning I don't even know how to root a device.

As of now, in "About tablet," it says: Android version 5.0; Kernel version 3.1.10-g5d8ecd2, android-build@kpdm5.cbf.corp.google.com #1, Wed Aug 20 19:52:21 PDT 2014; Build number LRX21P
