A warning to people who bought their phones from ebay topic

07:25

Over the past couple of months Ive noticed a lot of posts made by people who have bought their phones off ebay, then bricked it by using autorec or flashing a kdz. It's usually this situation

-The user bought a d802 or d800 from ebay
-They carefully picked their version of autorec/kdz firmware and used it correctly
-The phone rebooted to a black screen. No recovery, download or fastboot

in some of these cases the users removed the rear cover to check the model and of course the stamp below the battery read 'ls980' or 'd801/d803' even though the phone was sold as a d800 or d802.
Here are a couple of examples to let you know what I'm talking about

I'm writing this thread to make people aware that the phone you buy off ebay might not be what the seller claims. Many sellers seem to be rebranding different G2 variants as d802 or d800. I'm not really clear on the reason for it but It's happening and for the root user who likes flashing roms, this can be quite a problem.
They do a very good job of disguising it from modding the build prop to putting on a fake rear cover.

If you suspect that your phone isn't genuine, there are a couple of measures you can take to either find out for certain or minimise the risk of flashing the wrong firmware

- Look up your IMEI. Before you do anything else type *#06# from your Dialer to get IMEI code. This can be used to identify your model no. or download the correct kdz firmware. However, don't rely on this

Ok, I now believe that the phone I have is not a D802 international model but some other variant. I got it off eBay and think that the seller has modified the IMEI and rom to report as a D802. Is there any way to tell without taking the back off the phone?

- Remove the rear cover. This is a bit tough but It may be the only way to find out the real model number. It's near the battery like in the photo. There's a good video that explains how to do it here

Unfortunately if you have already bricked your device I'll include some links to guides and fixes below

If you are stuck in fastboot but have download mode
Stuck in fastboot, no download mode
qhsusb_bulk bulkmode, multiple drives popping up in windows, no download mode
Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 mode

I'm not trying to alarm anyone, you have to be unlucky to get one of these mock ups but since it has happened to a lot of people I thought it was worth sharing.
